Senior Backend Engineer

About the role

You will conceptualise, design, build and keep improving the backend systems behind a medical product. Because it is a medical product, data security and safety sit at the highest level. That standard shapes how the team designs, reviews and ships.

You will work in a team of software engineers, close to the product owner, the data science team and product. The role carries real technical say: architecture, tech stack, software quality and system performance are yours to drive, not to wait on.

What you will do

• Design, build and continuously improve our backend systems.
• Develop and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Hold data security and safety to the standard a medical product demands.
• Get our products and processes ready for serious scale.
• Drive system architecture, tech stack, software quality and performance.
• Facilitate technology decisions across the team.
• Work closely with the product owner, data science and product teams.
• Take part in daily sprint meetings, running several workstreams in parallel.

What we are looking for

• Senior backend engineering experience, on systems you designed, shipped and then ran.
• Building and maintaining REST and GraphQL APIs.
• Track record of taking a working system and preparing it to scale.
• Care for data security and safety, ideally with regulated or safety-critical data.
• Comfort owning architecture and tech-stack decisions, and explaining them.
